Fun Stuff

I work all day on the internet so you might think I would want to get away from it at the end of the workday but I don’t…  There is so much “fun stuff” on the net!

I really enjoy some of the sites I have found and I thought that since I already have this blog I might as well share my list with you.

I suppose my idea of fun is sort of quirky and old fashioned…  I don’t play games or chat with strangers but I do love to read and listen to music so that is mostly what you will find on this page.  I hope you discover something here that brightens your day.

Pandora “Make your own radio station” by picking a song or artist and then listening as the algorithm finds other selections it thinks you will like.  You can make and enjoy an unlimited number of stations in a very wide variety of genres.  They recently started playing short commercials but you can upgrade for only $36 per year for commercial-free listening.

I Can Has Cheeseburger This is where I go when I am sad or discouraged.  The funny and cute animal pictures always cheer me up.  If you look across the top you will see a little menu bar for “more lolz” that take you to similar sites with funny pictures of dogs, celebrities, funny look alikes, etc that are lots of fun too.

Arts & Letters Daily A service of the Chronicle of Higher Education, this site serves up amazing links to articles relating to literature, philosophy, criticism, history, language, culture, art, ideas, music, poetry and aesthetics.  Yes, this does sound like intimidating brainiac stuff but actually it is quite accessible and very enjoyable.  The content is updated daily and there is always something interesting.  The list of links on the left take you to every kind of content you would ever want to read.  This is probably my very favorite place on the internet.

Creators Syndicate A syndicate is sort of a clearinghouse for news columnists and cartoonists.  You are probably most familiar with Reuters and AP and the other big ones but I prefer the relatively new and independent Creators Syndicate.  I love to read and this site features some of the best columnists in the business, updated hourly.    The cartoons are fun too!

Slate This is basically an online magazine.  Slate is tied to MSNBC and Newsweek magazine and is ridiculously biased but I still enjoy many of the features.  They have a very nice weekly poetry podcast.

Daily Brickbats I am very politically conservative.  Not quite a libertarian, but pretty close.  As far as I can see there are very few situations in society that cannot be made worse through the intervention of government.  This site features examples, updated daily, of various kinds of governmental idiocy and/or political correctness.  Some of the posts are really depressing but most are pretty funny in an exasperating way.
